TikTok Is Impressed With Japan's Fifty Piece Costco Sushi Platters

Whether your tastebuds prefer the raw deliciousness that is sashimi-style sushi, creamy rolls, spicy flavor bombs, or crunchy texture, there are so many tempting types of sushi out there to enjoy. If you're particularly fond of Japanese cuisine, you might grab a glass of sake to pair with your sushi roll of choice before digging into one (or three) with your mad chopstick skills. As of this 2023 industry report, there are now over 19,000 sushi restaurants in the U.S. and climbing. It seems more and more Americans are discovering the magic of fresh sushi and just how many different and creative varieties there are in existence.

If you've just wiped a little drool from your chin after reading this, you probably have the sushi capital of the world somewhere on your bucket list of travel musts. Once you're able to visit Japan, you should spring for buying a variety of delicious sushi all at once without making multiple trips. How does one get a hold of a massive sushi platter such as this? Japan's Costco locations happen to offer a colorful, 50-piece spread of different sushi flavors that you can snack on for days.

Fifty pieces for just $35? Yes please.

In a TikTok video, a sushi fan discovered the enormous platter of nigiri in Japan for $35 and rated a few pieces. Her personal favorites were the salmon, seabream, and tuna. Viewers of her taste test got really excited that Japan's Costco brought this into existence, and expressed their delight with comments like, "wtf, a STEAL," and, "I know what to do now when I visit my family in Japan!" Some users mentioned you can also find platters like this in the UK, and according to another Reddit post, a vegan sushi box with 32 pieces exists there for the equivalent of $12 USD.

Here in the States, Costco has its own bulk sushi tray, too. Another TikTok user, ShoPhoCho, grabbed one to try for himself and also gave a shoutout to Japan's amazing 50-piece platter in the process. For $14, he bought a variety of salmon nigiri and rolls to try. After taking a few bites, he remarks in the video, "The fish is decent, the rice is seasoned well." However, he mentions the rice was unfortunately too hard. According to Asian Recipe, the secret to keeping sushi rice from getting hard is to store it in temperatures ranging from 55 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit. "Sushi is frequently kept in a refrigerator in the USA at temperatures that are far too low." Noted. We see you Japan, and we need to try your endless sushi platter immediately.
