Copycat Chick-Fil-A Mac And Cheese Recipe

Most people know Chick-fil-A for the wide range of chicken items on the menu. But lo and behold, there are other highly sought-after menu items that don't contain any chicken, and one of those items is their famous mac and cheese. This isn't your typical mac and cheese, and it features several different cheeses, ranging from white cheddar to Parmesan. This combination makes it much tastier than the stuff that you would get from a box, and while there are plenty of bold cheeses to bring your tastebuds to life, it's still really easy to make.

Recipe developer Catherine Brookes of Blue Sky Eating recreated the classic dish from the chicken giant's menu, and it will definitely save you a trip to the drive-thru. "This recipe is such a delicious indulgent treat. It's super cheesy, rich, and creamy with that tasty, crispy topping," Brookes raves. She also explains why her version is even better: "This homemade version is super easy to make, as well as being budget friendly, and great to make in one big batch."

Gather the ingredients for this copycat Chick-fil-A mac and cheese

Even though this is a copycat recipe, you will need to get most of the ingredients needed to make traditional mac and cheese. Be sure to pick up macaroni noodles, grated white cheddar cheese, grated sharp cheddar cheese, sliced American cheese, grated Pecorino Romano cheese, Parmesan cheese, butter, half-and-half, and salt. "The combination of all the different cheeses that come together to create that signature taste," Brookes adds.

Once you have those items, you can make this cheesy copycat Chick-fil-A mac and cheese.

Boil the pasta, and melt the cheeses

First, boil the macaroni noodles according to the package instructions. Meanwhile, add 1 cup grated white cheddar, 1 cup grated sharp cheddar, sliced American cheese, grated Pecorino Romano cheese, Parmesan cheese, butter, half-and-half, and salt to a large saucepan over medium heat. Be sure to stir frequently, and continue cooking until all of the ingredients melt, and form the cheese sauce. "Be careful not to have the heat too high when melting together the cheeses, or you may get a burnt layer in the bottom of the pan," Brookes says.

Assemble the mac and cheese

Once everything has melted, after 5 to 10 minutes, remove the saucepan from the stove. Then, preheat the oven to the high broil setting. Take out a large baking dish, and add in the macaroni noodles, followed by the melted cheese mixture on top. Now, sprinkle the remaining ½ cup grated white cheddar, and ½ cup sharp cheddar cheese over the top of the melted cheese layer.

Broil, and serve the mac and cheese

Now, broil the mac and cheese for 5 to 10 minutes. Once the top cheese layer browns and starts to bubble, remove it and serve. This mac and cheese makes a great side dish or main course. "This is great served with some steamed greens, such as broccoli, or green beans," she says.

This stuff is so good, you may not have any leftovers, but if you do, we've got your covered. "Leftovers should keep well [for] up to 3 days in the fridge. You can reheat it in the microwave or oven," Brookes says.
