Why David Spade Once Picked Up A $9,000 Dinner Tab For Adam Sandler

David Spade and Adam Sandler go way back. They've been friends since their "Saturday Night Live" days in the '90s and have starred in more than half a dozen movies together. They help each other out and do each other favors, just like any other pair of friends would. Sometimes the favor involves picking up a tab at a restaurant or bar.

Most of us are familiar with the "pay-it-forward" lines at Starbucks and other fast-food drive-thrus. Someone pays for your order ahead of you, so you pay for the order behind you, but there's always that one person who gets stuck paying a lot more than their own total. The pay-it-forward between Spade and Sandler was basically like that.

Spade shared the story during an interview on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon." He told Fallon that Sandler always buys him dinner because he's a nice guy with a "wallet that's 10-feet tall," so naturally, he wanted to return the favor. He just didn't know what it would cost him.

The tab included Sandler and more than a dozen other guests

It happened sometime before the summer of 2019. During the interview with Jimmy Fallon, Spade said he once entered a fancy restaurant where the host told him Adam Sandler was also dining. Spade acted indifferent to the news. He later learned that Sandler had an entire back room booked with about 15 guests for a birthday party. Spade decided to crash the party and tell a few "thirsty bits," but the crowd was unamused.

On his way out of the restaurant, he offered to cover Sandler's tab. The man at the front desk said, "Sir, his ... whole thing?" He replied, "Yeah. I'm on TV sometimes. What are you worried about?" So the man charged his Discover card and handed Spade the receipt. He told Fallon that when he noticed the amount, he "was like, boyoyoink!"

He claimed he got a call the next day from Identity Guard with the suspicion that his card was stolen. He confirmed that the $9,000 purchase was indeed valid. Let's hope Sandler returned the $9,000 favor. By the way, this wasn't the first time Spade made such a sizable "donation" to help someone out. He once paid $5,000 to a viral Burger King employee's GoFundMe. What a nice guy!
