The Internet Can't Unsee Aldi's NSFW Easter Marshmallows
Although new products undoubtedly go through many levels of testing and approval, sometimes they still slip through with interesting characteristics, to say the least. We're talking oddly suggestive names and snacks misshapen to the point they're not safe for work (NSFW). You know, the likes of the Milka chocolate Santa shared to the Reddit design fails thread for its unfortunate phallic appearance.
To shoppers' horror and amusement, Aldi recently released a similarly NSFW collection of Easter marshmallows. To celebrate the arrival of spring, the chain wanted to make marshmallows shaped like bunnies and chicks, but let's just say the marshmallows ended up looking more like something middle school boys would draw on their desks when the teacher isn't looking.
With all that being said, the resemblance did prompt an endless barrage of jokes from shoppers and Aldi alike. These days, we could all use a laugh, so let's take a look at what the internet had to say about Aldi's NSFW marshmallows.
Aldi 'can't even defend' these marshmallows
The chaos surrounding Aldi's Easter marshmallows began March 2, when one shopper posted a photo of the sweet treats to Twitter. They captioned the photo, "Sorry, Aldi, but that ain't a bunny." The post has since been viewed more than 6.3 million times, including by Aldi itself, who responded, "We can't even defend this one."
Others were quick to offer jokes, from people claiming that Aldi had let the mistake go unchecked for a laugh to parents commenting about an "interesting" upcoming Easter hunt at school.
Still others suggested that the problem arose not from a lack of oversight in the marshmallow manufacturing process, but from a mistake in the printing stages. One person wrote, "Maybe the 'ch' [in 'bunnies and chicks'] was supposed to be a 'd' and it's a printing error." Either way, if you want some kid-friendly Easter marshmallows, do yourself a favor and just buy Peeps bunnies and chicks.
