TikTok's Jelly Drink Is A Two-Step Bubble Tea (Without The Tea Part)

If there was ever a drink that symbolized Gen Z's colorful and bubbly personality, it's bubble tea. The popular drink filled with tapioca pearls, also known as boba, is a mainstay of shopping malls and food courts the world over, especially among young consumers. One of the many reasons we love bubble tea is for its highly customizable nature. While brown sugar milk tea is a certified classic, there's usually a wide range of pearls and tea flavors to choose from — allowing anyone to create the perfect order that suits their unique tastes and aesthetic.

Despite this, you might not have thought about making bubble tea at home. However, one TikTok user, who describes himself as the "jelly drink guy" for his similar viral videos, has recently demonstrated an easy way to replicate the drink's signature jelly-like texture. Already, the video has racked up an impressive 227,000 views and hundreds of comments from people eager to try it.

How do you make the jelly drink?

In the viral TikTok video, the user adds hot water to cola-flavored Haribo gummies before mixing and dissolving. They then refrigerate this mixture for five hours until it's firm, and top it with condensed milk. They are also shown stirring the drink — breaking up the dissolved gummies to replicate the chewy pearls in bubble tea.

People in the comments section are impressed by how easy the drink is to make. "I tried it! It's so good," one person commented. "Where did you get that milk?" another user asks, with the original poster responding that it was from Chinese mart — but also clarifying that any similar milk achieves the same effect. Other people suggested different flavors that could also pair well, with one user commenting, "You should try lemon/peach gummies and use ice tea instead of milk."

This drink looks delicious, but it doesn't actually contain any tea. If you want to make a more authentic milk tea at home, you could follow this YouTube tutorial from Milk and Pop and add on top of your melted gummies or tapioca pearls.
