The Steak 'N Shake Menu Item You Can Only Get After Midnight

Everyone likes the feeling of having access to something no one else does. That's how VIP rooms and velvet ropes became so popular. Secret menus deliver a similar feeling. We feel like an insider when we post an amazing photo to Instagram and people are envious of our ability to order something they've never seen before from their favorite restaurant.

Restaurants have taken advantage of this situation and created "secret" items to help boost sales and create buzz around their brand, according to The Rail. Some secret items are awesome (hello, Five Guys double grilled cheese burger!), while others are downright offensive; remember McDonald's Land, Sea and Air burger? That monstrosity brought back some serious turducken flashbacks.

For those who love a big burger, and we mean big, Steak 'n Shake offers a hefty secret menu item exclusively between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m. (via SecretMenus).

This secret Steak 'n Shake burger requires a big appetite

Fans of Steak 'n Shake already love the company's "steakburgers," named so because they're made with a mix of never-frozen ground round, sirloin, and T-bone steak meat. So, in 2013, Steak 'n Shake decided to offer its steakburger lovers seven times the meat with a secret 7X7 burger (via Fast Food News). Because of the burger's late-night availability, it has remained largely hidden to most consumers.

For $7.77, hungry fans can get seven (yup, seven) cheese steakburgers stacked on top of each other. The massive sandwich tops 1,300 calories (without fries), and contains nearly 100 grams of fat, but when placed side-by-side with other fast food calorie count offenders, it's not all that bad.

Many have taken to YouTube over the years to show off their ability to eat the 7X7 in under five minutes. There doesn't appear to be an officially sanctioned food challenge or prize from Steak 'n Shake, but sometimes the inner satisfaction that comes from defeating a fierce (and remember, secret!) opponent is enough — no trophy required.
