Who Makes Aldi's Barissimo Coffee?

The story of NewCoffee has run somewhat parallel to the history of Aldi itself. After brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht divided their family grocery business into Aldi Süd (Aldi South) and Aldi Nord (Aldi North) in 1961. Aldi Süd established coffee-roasting operations to supply its stores directly, first in the German city of Mülheim an der Ruhr and later in Ketsch, Germany. Decades later, in 2017, Aldi Süd consolidated these two operations under a new subsidiary called NewCoffee. Today, NewCoffee supplies products, such as Barissimo, in Aldi stores worldwide, and its roasteries produce over 35,000 metric tons of coffee per year.

NewCoffee operates out of Germany, but Central Europe's climate is poorly suited to growing coffee beans. Instead, the company sources raw beans from suppliers in coffee-growing regions around the world, including Brazil, Vietnam, Honduras, Peru, Tanzania, Kenya, and Colombia. Aldi has placed particular emphasis on responsible sourcing and stronger environmental and labor standards throughout its coffee supply chain. Both Aldi and NewCoffee continue to build relationships with coffee farmers worldwide. Maintaining these relationships is crucial to a reliable long-term coffee supply and can also keep prices consistent at the customer level.

While the beans are sourced from a variety of locations, the fact that all Barissimo products are roasted at NewCoffee facilities helps ensure consistency of quality.
