Trader Joe's lovers often praise the company for its store-brand products. In fact, some TJ's fans have been known to drive long distances just to shop there. Can you blame them when it was ranked America's favorite grocery chain of 2026 in the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) rankings? It's got tons of cult-favorite food items, and one snack in particular that's worth a drive is the chocolate-covered wafer cookie with peanut butter filling.

Although Trader Joe's already had an unfilled chocolate-covered wafer cookie, this version is a step up with the addition of peanut butter and caramel for a richer flavor. Part candy, part cookie, the wafer comes in a large, single-serving, 2.33-ounce bar (which is a little bigger than a standard Hershey's bar, for reference) at $1.19. Because of the additional ingredients, the wafer cookie with peanut butter is higher in calories than the original (350 compared to 290 per bar), and it has double the amount of protein (6 versus 3 grams).

While Trader Joe's often works with third-party manufacturers to create its store-brand products, it's unknown which business supplies these wafer cookies. However, it seems the treats were likely inspired by Polish wafer cookies and are very similar to Polish brand Grześki's peanut butter wafer cookies.

What, exactly, makes the chocolate-covered wafer cookie with peanut butter so good?

Judging by the reactions online, these cookies have been flying off the shelves. In one Reddit post, Trader Joe's shoppers recount smuggling the candy into the movies with them, while others admit they don't even last the car ride home. As one Reddit user put it, "This [ticks] all my candy bar boxes! Sweet, salty, and crunchy!" Several commenters even compared the treat to other popular chocolate-covered wafer candies, like KitKat and Reese's Sticks, although TJ's version is one large piece rather than two or more skinny pieces.

While you could certainly buy any of those other brands, Trader Joe's version is also notably free of artificial flavorings, colorings, and preservatives, as well as added trans fats. Meanwhile, similar store-brand versions, like Walmart's Great Value peanut butter wafer bars, have mono- and diglycerides (emulsifiers), both of which can be connected to trans fats. Of course, TJ's peanut butter wafer bars aren't a health food, but you can at least rest assured you're avoiding those often-unwanted ingredients.

The price is also one of the reasons this snack is a favorite. Sometimes you just want a cheap, bar-shaped, sweet treat you can devour on the way home from the grocery store. (While you're at it, check out these other Trader Joe's desserts you might want in your kitchen, too.)
