The Underrated Culver's Menu Item That's Perfect For Cooler Weather
Beloved Midwestern fast food chain Culver's has dozens of different menu options. Sure, there are popular menu items like ButterBurgers, North Atlantic cod sandwich, cheese curds, and concrete mixers. But there are plenty of things on the menu that fly under the radar, too. One of the most underrated Culver's items is definitely the soup, specifically tomato Florentine. While soup is more typically found at casual restaurants and sandwich shops, Culver's isn't the only fast food chain to offer soup as a classic menu side.
Still, Culver's tomato Florentine soup deserves some recognition as a tasty selection in its own right — especially during the colder months. Self-reported Culver's employees on Reddit mentioned, "[We] love it to death. We are usually the ones eating it the most." Likewise, other employees also mentioned it's not ordered very frequently, and their particular location stopped serving it as a result. It isn't available at every Culver's restaurant, and locations that do offer it tend to rotate it with other soup options like broccoli cheese or chicken noodle soup.
But for those who have had the tomato Florentine soup, and order it regularly, it's a favorite. Many of Culver's soups get high praise from customers who have tried them. Although the Potato with Bacon Soup did not earn our favor in a ranking of fast food soups.
Tomato Florentine soup ingredients and menu pairings
If you're lucky enough to find tomato Florentine soup at Culver's, you can order it in one of two sizes: medium or large. Prices vary by location, but hover around $3 to $4 for a medium and $5 to $6 for a large. The tomato Florentine soup is also much lower in calories than most sides, coming in at 140 calories for the medium and 190 for the large. However, it's still full of sodium, as you might expect from a fast food restaurant (a salty 1,370 milligrams for medium and 2,010 milligrams for large).
The tomato Florentine soup has a broth base seasoned with spices, like onion, garlic, and parsley, along with ample salt and sugar. What's nice about this soup is that it's a little heartier than a classic tomato soup, containing pasta shells and chunks of veggies, like zucchini, carrots, celery, and spinach. Although it's one of the few vegetarian soups offered, it isn't vegan as the pasta is made with egg whites and the broth has both butter and parmesan mixed in.
If you want to warm up with this soup, you can, of course, order it on its own. And while it does come with saltine crackers, customers have said it pairs well with either the grilled cheese or Wisconsin cheese curds. You could also do a classic soup and salad combo, which one employee recommended on Reddit. However you order it, the tomato Florentine and Culver's many other soups may surprise you.
