Krispy Kreme Just Announced Good News For Peanut Butter Lovers
National doughnut chain Krispy Kreme has announced that they are bringing back not one, but three of their popular Resee's doughnuts for a limited time starting July 24th, 2020 — and one of them will stay on the menu for good! In a statement sent to Mashed, the company has announced that they are beginning a competition where fans of the peanut butter chocolate treats will have a chance to vote for their favorite iteration by leaving their "most creative reviews" on social media using the hashtags #Greataste and #KrispyKreme, and tagging @krispykreme.
Naming the promotional contest the "Greataste Reese's Doughnut of all Time," Chief Marketing Officer for Krispy Kreme, Dave Skena, said the decision to put the choice of which flavor stayed on the menu in the hands of their customers came because they couldn't pick their favorite one. "Imagine having a tough time choosing a winner because everyone agrees all of the candidates are so good," he said. "Well that's just what's happening with Krispy Kreme and Reese's latest collaboration."
Three Resee's doughnuts from previous years are in the running to see which will stay forever
On the Krispy Kreme website, the three flavors up for consideration are listed as the Classic Resee's Doughnut, the Resee's Outrageous Doughnut, and the Resee's Original Filled Chocolate Lovers Doughnut. The Classic Resee's Doughnut was the Resee's Doughnut of the Year in 2017, and described as a doughnut filled with Resee's Peanut Butter Kreme and dipped in Hershey's chocolate icing, topped with mini peanut butter chips and a drizzle of chocolate and Resee's peanut butter sauce. The Resee's Outrageous Doughnut was the Resee's Doughnut of the Year in 2018 and is made by dipping a chocolate Original Glazed doughnut in Hershey's chocolate icing and topping it with Mini Resee's Pieces, a drizzle of salted caramel, and a drizzle of Resee's peanut butter icing. The final contestant is the Resee's Original Filled Chocolate Lovers Doughnut, which was the Resee's Doughnut of the Year in 2019. The website describes it as a chocolate Original Glazed doughnut, filled with Resee's Peanut Butter Kreme, dipped in Hershey's chocolate icing, and topped with Resee's Peanut Butter sauce.
