Wendy's New Menu Addition Is Turning Heads

You might have heard that Wendy's is giving away free chicken nuggets with any purchase you place on the app this month. While that's definitely happening, there's another reason you might want to place an order at Wendy's right away, and it's all thanks to one burger that's returning to the menu. If you remember the Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger and were a fan of it the first time it hit the menu, then your day has come (via Chewboom).

Some fans clearly felt that there were some improvements to be made after trying the first iteration of the pub-inspired cheeseburger, and Wendy's took it seriously. "Like we did with Spicy Nuggets, we've been watching and listening as customers have been craving for us to bring Pretzel back," said Carl Loredo, Wendy's chief marketing officer (via USA Today). "We married the fervor for our former pretzel bun with the increased love for gastropub-inspired flavors and created a cheeseburger that is, in a word, unforgettable." But, you'll have to swing by your local Wendy's to give it your own thumbs up.

What you need to know about the new addition

In fact, the chain tried 18 different recipes for the beer cheese sauce, along with more than 10 beers. The aim was to "get that perfect amount of bitterness that compliments the other sweet and savory ingredients of the sandwich," and hopefully you'll find they got it just right this time.

With this newest menu addition, there are actually two different versions of the sandwich. Both are a part of Wendy's new "Made to Crave" menu, which is available at participating locations. Don't be too disappointed if a local franchise doesn't happen to have it, though.

The first is the Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger which is made with a quarter-pound of ground beef. It's then topped with Munster cheese, smoky honey mustard, three pieces of applewood smoked bacon, warm beer cheese sauce (of course), crispy fried onions, and pickles all on a soft pretzel bun. This take on the sandwich costs about $5.69.

Wendy's has also included a chicken version of the pub burger

The second version of the sandwich includes all of the same ingredients, but instead of a burger, it's a chicken sandwich. You know Wendy's had to continue those chicken sandwich wars. The Pretzel Bacon Pub Homestyle Chicken Sandwich swaps the beef patty for a filet of Homestyle Chicken. It costs about $6.19, so it's a bit of an upgrade.

To promote this exciting new menu addition, you can get the burger for free during Labor Day weekend. From Friday, September 4th to Monday, September 7th, enter the code PRETZEL on Postmates to get it free with any delivery purchase of $15 or more. Unfortunately, this only applies to Postmates orders. Otherwise, you'll just have to visit a store and pick one up yourself.
