Why The Voices In The Fudge Brownie M&M's Commercial Sound So Familiar
M&M's are melt in your mouth, not in your hands delish. The only thing better than the original M&M's might be M&M's filled with chewy fudge brownie. Per Geek Spin, the Fudge Brownie M&M's flavor was teased back in July 2019 and the beloved M&M's brand finally brought it to our grocer's candy aisles in April 2020. Fudge Brownie M&M's are big, round, and reminiscent in size and shape to peanut butter M&M's.
Fudge Brownie M&M's may be new to the candy game, but they are gaining quite the fanbase. According to Grunge, Mars, the candy's parent company, recently featured Fudge Brownie M&M's in a commercial that starred everyone's favorite original Red M&M, Yellow Peanut M&M, and Ms. Brown M&M, also known as the original Brown M&M. The 30-second commercial begins with the three M&M's sitting in a living room (via iSpot). Yellow Peanut M&M muses about how it must be really hard to put a brownie in an M&M. While Ms. Brown, sitting in an armchair quite poised, notes that it actually takes a bit of genius to pull it off. But, as you are following the humorous antics of Yellow Peanut M&M's attempt to put brownies in the M&M's, you may feel like you recognize these animated candies' familiar voices, and for good reason.
Vanessa Williams, J.K. Simmons & Billy West voice the M&M's
Who are the voices that make this Fudge Brownie M&M commercial so funny? If you guessed J.K. Simmons, Vanessa Williams, and Billy West, then you are really good at this game. Simmons is the perfect comedic voice behind the clueless, Yellow Peanut M&M, while West serves as his Red M&M sidekick, and "The Colors of the Wind" singer, Williams, plays the wise and sophisticated Ms. Brown.
Where have you seen Simmons before? Simmons's portrayal of Dr. Emil Skoda on Law & Order may having you nodding your head and mouthing, "Oh, right." But Grunge notes that you also might recognize his voice from his commercial work for Farmers Insurance (via YouTube). Meanwhile, the Red M&M, Billy West has done voice work on Futurama as the voice of Phillip J. Fry, per his website.
What is surprising is how long Williams has been voicing Ms. Brown. Per Community Voices, the Desperate Housewives star has been the voice of Ms. Brown since 2012. Williams did the voice for Ms. Brown for the M&M's Super Bowl commercial in 2018 where she played opposite Danny Devito. But will Simmons, West, and Williams appear in M&M's 2021 Super Bowl commercial? We will all find out when the game kicks off on February 7. According to PR Newswire, the new 30-second ad will air during the first commercial break.
