Dalgona Coffee Recipe

If you have been online in the past year, you have likely come across the whipped coffee trend. Maybe, like us, you've wondered how difficult it is to make. Perhaps you have wanted to try out the fluffy treat. Well, now is your chance! Along with Mashed, U.K.-based food blogger Susan Olayinka, who shares recipes on The Flexible Fridge, has put together and quick and easy recipe for Dalgona coffee — or whipped coffee — that as she told us, "is honestly so good and even more fun to make." She adds, "I'm sold! This feels like such a luxury to make at home."

Indeed, you can "whip" this up at home anytime, since as Olayinka explains, "all that's needed is whipping the coffee, sugar, hot water — and that's it!" Meanwhile, for those who aren't familiar with the viral coffee hack, she notes, "I would describe Dalgona coffee as a very indulgent latte — it's absolutely delicious."

What are you waiting for?

Gather your ingredients to make Dalgona coffee

As Olayinka told Mashed, her super-accessible Dalgona coffee recipe will require only a few ingredients. Once you shop for them, you can make this special treat any time you want. Enjoy a Dalgona coffee every day — we won't judge!

So, simply gather instant coffee, white sugar, and milk. You will also need hot water, with Olayinka recommending you use a kettle to heat it thoroughly. Meanwhile, about your choice of milk, she actually notes a non-dairy variety works really well here, specifically advising that oat milk, which is naturally sweeter, is perfect for this whipped coffee treat.

To create the beverage, you will also need a hand foamer or an electric whisk. Not familiar with what a hand foamer is? Raises hand. Olayinka explained, "A hand foamer is like a mini electric whisk. It is normally used to make foamed milk quickly or to create lattes."

Whip your Dalgona coffee

With a few very easy steps, you are all set to sip your sweet Dalgona coffee and feel like you are hanging out in a chic coffee house but in the comfort of your own kitchen, without even changing out of your pajamas. Just us? Add the equal parts instant coffee, white sugar, and hot water to a bowl, with Olayinka advising that a bowl with high sides works best here: "It can easily spill over when you are whisking the coffee," she notes.

Next, you will whisk your coffee mixture with the hand foamer or electric whisk for five full minutes, non-stop. Talk about a great forearm workout! Over time, Olayinka says, "You will notice the color gets light and the texture thicker." You will also notice that soft peaks have formed.

And now, the coffee foam is ready to add to your milk of choice.

Sip Dalgona coffee to your delight

Okay, so your coffee foam is, well, foamed. Now, pour your milk into your glass of choice, and just top the milk with the whipped coffee mixture. Olayinka also notes you should stir the milk and whipped coffee together to blend the flavors.

Finally, if you can stop admiring your efforts and how pretty and perfect the coffee looks, you can take a sip of your Dalgona coffee. Well, first you should take a few photos to post to Instagram. Then, enjoy your coffee. Olayinka told Mashed, "This pairs well with a lovely biscuit on the side — my preference is a chocolate biscuit." Yum! Talk about a great start, or end, to the day.

And yes, the Dalgona coffee really is easy to make, right? But if you don't want your guests to know the truth so you can impress them the next time they stop by, we promise not to say a word!
