TikTok's Uncrustables Donut Hack, Explained

Uncrustable sandwiches are sure to bring back a blast of nostalgia for people of a certain age. The prepared peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, which were released by Smuckers in 1995, come in a package with the crusts — notoriously the most unappetizing part of a sandwich, for some people — already cut off. While many of us may simply remember the sandwiches fondly for saving us the work of cutting off the crust ourselves, it seems the new generation has some more innovative ideas for the classic Uncrustable sandwich.

Not content to simply eat the cold sandwich like their parents did, one creative chef on TikTok has come up with an inventive new way to revamp the old-school lunch staple. Teenage chef and entertainer Eitan Bernath posted a TikTok video showing followers how to turn the plain PB&J into a warm, delicious dessert, and all it takes is a saucepan, some vegetable oil, and a simple Smuckers Uncrustable sandwich.

Deep fry the Uncrustable in vegetable oil for a uniquely delicious doughnut

"According to this video, you can take Uncrustables, deep fry them, and turn them into Uncrustable doughnuts," Bernath announced to his followers in the video. To get this delicious result, Bernatch recommends cutting out a hole into the center of the sandwich with a small cutter to give it that distinctive doughnut shape. Then, simply fill up a pot with vegetable oil, heat it up to 375 degrees Fahrenheit, and dip the Uncrustable into the oil. After just about 30 to 45 seconds of deep frying on each side, the Uncrustable sandwich turns into a crispy, sweet doughnut.

The video has received over 30,000 likes and over 200 shares since its release, and it has inspired more than a few other people to give these doughnuts a try for themselves. The creative recipe is certainly resonating with a large number of home cooks, so whether you remember Uncrustables from your school days, or you have never even tried the packaged sandwich, this tasty new hack might not be one to miss.
