Recipe developer and private practice registered dietician Kristin Carli is known for her wide variety of delicious recipes, and we must admit that this one is a favorite of ours. Carli shares that she opted to use beer in the batter for this particular recipe because "beer helps to create a lighter crust on fried food." That sounds pretty genius to us!

Keep reading to find out how to make these oeey, gooey, cheesy mozzarella sticks that are great for a crowd. Trust us — you don't want to skip out on this one.

Gather the ingredients to prepare beer battered mozzarella sticks

First things first: You want to start by gathering all of the ingredients necessary to create this delightful side dish. For starters, you will need some flour, baking powder, and baking soda. If you cook at home fairly often, you will likely be able to find one or more items in your pantry already. In addition, grab some salt and a dark beer. "I love using a dark beer here for a deep malty sweetness," Carli notes. To complete your list, add an egg, mozzarella sticks, and oil for frying. Once you have everything gathered together, it's time to begin.

Make the batter

Let's get things started by making the batter that goes on these mozzarella sticks. Grab a bowl, and add in the flour, baking powder, and baking soda. At this time, you'll also want to toss in the salt and dark beer. Use a whisk to combine all of the ingredients together, and now it should start to look a lot more like a batter.

Once you finish mixing, set the bowl aside for about an hour to let it rest. You don't need to stick it in the fridge — you can just leave it on the counter at room temperature.

Add the eggs

After letting the mixture rest for an hour, it's time to add in the egg. Once again, you can use your whisk to combine everything. Now, the mixture should have even more of a batter-like consistency. This is good, and it should be the perfect texture for dipping in those mozzarella sticks.

Unwrap your mozzarella sticks, and begin to dip them in the batter one by one. Make sure you cover all of the mozzarella stick entirely with the batter so it locks the cheese on the inside. You can put the batter-covered mozzarella sticks on a plate for the time being.

Heat the oil

Next, take out a large pot, and dump in the oil. Once the oil gets hot, add in a few of the cheese sticks at a time. Be sure to keep the mozzarella sticks from sticking to the bottom of the pan, and use your spatula to move them if needed. If they stick to the bottom of the pan, this will ruin the crust and allow the cheese to escape — and we don't want that to happen!

As the mozzarella sticks cook in the oil, they should be floating. Repeat the steps with each of the mozzarella sticks, and allow them to fry for about three minutes each.

Enjoy

Once you fry all of the mozzarella sticks, you can plate them however you wish. We recommend a serving platter if you are having guests over and want to make a fancy presentation. These are best when served hot, so try to enjoy them right away. "I love these served with marinara sauce for dipping," Carli shares. We also think these would go great with a ranch sauce for dipping because, let's be honest, who doesn't love ranch?

We hope that you love this recipe just as much as we do. We're certain it will be the best game day and party app staple.
