Firehouse Subs New Cuban Sandwich Comes With A Smoky Twist

For a limited time, you can once more indulge in Firehouse Subs' twist on the classic Cuban sandwich. In a Facebook announcement shared by the popular sandwich shop, the company revealed their BBQ Cuban Sub is made with pulled pork, honey ham, melted Swiss cheese, sweet and smoky chipotle slaw, mayo, spicy pickles, and a mustard BBQ sauce. Understandably, the post caught the attention of many — many of whom were impressed with the sandwich and others who were not thrilled with the selection.

In the comments section of the post, one person said, "It's a good sandwich. I had one yesterday," as another added, "It was awesome!!" Then, after a third person said that they had recently tried the "amazing" sub and had a great experience with the restaurant's "friendly and courteous" staff, they were met with a message from the chain itself. "Wow... thanks for the kind words!" they replied.

The Firehouse BBQ Cuban Sub isn't exactly new to some

While Firehouse Subs described BBQ Cuban Sub as "new," that may not be true for all of the chain's fans. In a statement provided to Mashed, Firehouse Subs shared that the menu item was market tested in limited locations and for a limited time before being offered nationwide, so at least a few of their fans will already be familiar with the sandwich.

Back in June 2020, a review for what appears to be the same sandwich (complete with the same ingredients and name) was uploaded to YouTube. Presumably, this sandwich was purchased during the testing phase. In the clip, YouTuber 2¢ Chick said that although they did like the slaw, the spicy flavor failed to come through. Overall, however, the YouTuber said the flavors work well together. Over a year later, following the restaurant's latest release, user SomethingNew shared their own review and said they liked it a lot, calling the pork and ham "Mad fresh. Mad flavorful" (YouTube).
