My Dream Kitchen: Carla Hall: Release Date, Plot, And More - What We Know So Far

Discovery+ has announced the production of a new special featuring fan-favorite celebrity chef Carla Hall, titled "My Dream Kitchen: Carla Hall." This news arrived alongside the news that Giada De Laurentiis would also star in a similar special, "My Dream Kitchen: Giada De Laurentiis." Though the premises of the shows will be roughly the same, each chef will get their own individual production.

Carla Hall, the Top Chef alum and co-host of "The Chew" (among many other professional accolades), struck a new talent deal with the Food Network back in August of 2020 (per Variety). The contract meant Hall would work exclusively with the Food Network with the company announcing at the time that Hall "will now be looking to develop and bring to fruition new passion projects for Food Network audiences." This special is very likely a part of that deal, offering audiences a special inside look into the celebrity chef's "dream kitchen."

If you can't wait to see Hall's newest project, you're not alone. Here's everything we know so far about the highly anticipated special.

When is the release date for My Dream Kitchen: Carla Hall?

According to Deadline, "My Dream Kitchen: Carla Hall" will air exclusively on Discovery+ on Saturday, December 18. The sister special, "My Dream Kitchen: Giada De Laurentiis," will also air on the same day. Though an exact time wasn't given, many streaming services, like Netflix, often release new content at 12 a.m. PST (per Netflix). The channel has yet to give a length of the special, whether it'll be an hour-long shebang or a quick 30-minute spectacular.

Discovery+, Discovery's streaming service, is available starting at $4.99 a month. Encompassing shows from HGTV, Food Network, TLC, and Animal Planet, among other channels, if you sign up for Discovery+ to watch the Carla Hall special, there will be plenty of content available to you when you finish. If you're a student, Discovery+ offers a special rate of $2.99 for those pursuing their degrees and education. If you're only looking to watch the special, they do offer a free trial for new users.

What is the plot of My Dream Kitchen: Carla Hall?

"My Dream Kitchen: Carla Hall" will take viewers inside Carla Hall's dramatic DC kitchen transformation. Set in the home she's lived in for the past 20 years, it'll be an interesting inside peak for viewers who want to see exactly what a professional chef looks for in a personal kitchen. Though Hall has two kitchens, Food Network's press release notes she's never felt she's truly had "the space she needs to cook privately, professionally, or on camera." Documenting the entire project, Hall is finally "rewarding herself and building the kitchen she's always wanted," and it'll be in the home she lives in with her husband, Matthew Lyons.

However, as the special will show, it's not going to be as simple as boiling water. "Differing tastes from Matthew, having to move out during construction, endless delays, and a very lengthy renovation push the project — and Carla's patience — to its limits," the network teased. Speaking of the specials, network higher up Courtney White said, "A chef's home kitchen renovation is particularly fascinating. Giada and Carla allowed our cameras to document every detail— from the glorious to the painful."

We're sure the end result is going to be the perfect setup for Hall and her fantastic recipes, such as the sparkling almond sugar cookies she shared with People.

Who will star in My Dream Kitchen: Carla Hall?

Given the special's title, it's safe to say we'll be seeing plenty of Carla Hall during the upcoming special. It's also likely her husband, Matthew Lyons, will play a fairly big role in "My Dream Kitchen: Carla Hall" given it takes place in the home they share.

We may meet some designers, contractors, and friends along the way, but expect the focus to remain on Hall — it is her dream kitchen, after all.

Hall's energy alone is often enough to light up a room, making her a fan favorite. (She once told Us Weekly that she would've tried her hand at acting had the whole chef thing not panned out, and that totally makes sense.) After just barely missing the win on Season 5 of "Top Chef," Hall was brought back for "Top Chef: All-Stars" and eventually became a host on "The Chew." It's clear viewers like Hall for more than her recipes, they love seeing her on their screens with her infectious personality and "hootie hoo!" catchphrase. No matter who is in the special, knowing Hall will be there is more than enough.

"My Dream Kitchen: Carla Hall" was produced by Balthazar Entertainment. The production company has extensive experience, bringing shows like "Love It or List It" and "Let's Eat" to life.
