Why You Should Puree Your Guacamole Ingredients

As a no-cook food, guacamole can be quick and easy to make, as well as a delicious party-pleaser. However, those who are familiar with making this popular avocado-based snack know that there are a number of tips and tricks that can help up your guacamole game go from good to great.

Great guacamole starts with using the best ingredients. Make sure you're using Hass avocados as opposed to the Florida variety, according to HuffPost, because although they're larger, the Florida varieties contain more water. Plus, stay away from using unripe avocados — they're firmer and bitter, which downgrades both the dish's texture and flavor (via Kitchn). Oh, and Bon Appétit suggests that "salt is essential to great guacamole," so make sure you generously employ it to bring out the dish's natural flavors.

Still, you could be missing one important technique to creating the best flavor and texture of your guacamole.

Purée guacamole ingredients for the best flavor

If you're not blending your guacamole ingredients, you're doing it wrong — according to Shay Spence. The food influencer posted a video to TikTok where he revealed a guacamole tip he learned from a recipe by chef Aarón Sánchez. The tip: Purée the ingredients in a blender before adding to the avocado.

In the video, Spence combines chopped onion, a chopped serrano pepper, cilantro, lime juice, and lemon juice in a blender with some salt, then purées the ingredients to form a smooth mixture. Then he pours the purée into a bowl with the avocado and more chopped onion, and mixes it together.

"[The purée] goes directly into the avocados, and that way, when you mash it all together, all of that flavor is in every bite," Spence says in the video's voiceover. Since guacamole tends to have chunks of avocado, the purée ensures that no tortilla chip goes without experiencing every flavor.

Judging by the video's 70,700 likes, viewers think it's a genius move.
