Why No One Will Ever Eat The 'World's Largest Chicken Wing'

If you're a fan of paging through Guinness World Records or Ripley's Believe It or Not, there's a good chance you've probably seen titles like "The World's Largest..." or "The World's Biggest..." every now and then. No matter what it is, people always seem to have an attraction to making something as big as it can possibly allow and that includes food. Back in 2003, the Immaculate Baking Company in North Carolina created a chocolate chip cookie that weighed 40,000 pounds (via Guinness World Records). According to Eater, the largest pizza ever recorded by man was baked in Norwood, South Africa, at a cheesy 26,883 pounds back in December 1990. The British whipped up a pancake back in 1994 that was so massive they had to use a crane just to flip the beastly breakfast item (via BBC).

But for all the excitement of seeing your favorite food blown up to 100 times the normal size, it's mostly all about novelty. Unless you have a pretty hungry crowd willing to share a giant pizza or a pancake, you'd find it pretty challenging to eat all of that food without most of it going to waste. Giant foods are fun and all, and while most of them are edible, there's no way you'd ever be able to stomach that much.

However, it's a different story with the World's Largest Chicken Wing: It's not slathered in the World's Hottest Hot Sauce, but it legitimately can't be eaten.

The biggest chicken wing is at a Florida Hooters

In Madeira Beach, Florida, you'll come across John's Pass Village and Boardwalk, a coast-side tourist attraction filled with stores, restaurants, and entertainment complexes built along a network of boardwalks and piers. One of these restaurants is Hooters. Directly outside of the restaurant, the World's Largest Chicken Wing hangs from a bait hook. Via Roadside America, this massive chicken wing weighs an astounding 1,037 pounds and is suspended over buckets of dipping sauce.

While no doubt a giant buffalo wing outside of a Hooter's would be as impressive as seeing a Big Mac weighing half a ton outside of McDonald's, there's only one problem to this claim. This technically isn't the World's Largest Chicken Wing because it's only a massive replica of a chicken wing. It's more of a statue of an enormous wing rather than an actual hunk of poultry, so it's not actually edible. Besides, you wouldn't want to eat a wing that's been left out to dry for days on end, would you?

Real chicken wing or not, the World's Largest Chicken Wing makes for a great photo opportunity.
