Reddit Is Attempting To Settle The Ultimate Debate Of Best Aldi Cheese

Cheese is a hot item at Aldi. While products vary throughout the year and by location, Aldi's website currently lists 72 types on its "Cheese" product page. Aldi cheeses are not only popular, but select brands are also award-winning, according to Man of Many, which notes that 22 Aldi cheeses won either first or second place honors at the 2022 Dairy Industry Association of Australia Awards, including the award for best cheese, which went to Aldi's Emporium Selection Brie Half Wheel. Aldi also took top honors in the best fresh ricotta category for its Emporium Selection Ricotta.

Additionally, fans of Aldi cheeses often take to social media to express their two cents on their favorites, such as Instagram user @adventuresinaldi who posted a pic of Happy Farms' taco style cheese, captioning the photo, "IYKYK! This is my faveeeee shredded cheese at Aldi!" Instagrammer @arielle_erika agreed, commenting, "This cheese is the best," followed by a heart-eyed emoji. All these cheeses may be delectable in their own right, but do they win the ultimate debate of the best Aldi cheese out there?

Aldi makes some good Gouda

Another one of the massively popular cheeses at Aldi is Gouda, and shoppers there are all about their favorite Gouda brands, whether it be special products or the grocery store's OG Gouda cheeses. Enjoying good Gouda cheese is like having a party in your mouth. Whether you're having a quick cheese and crackers snack or making an elaborate charcuterie and cheese board, you'd be remiss not to include Aldi's award-winning Goudas in your cheese adventure. And, according to social media, it may just be the very best of all Aldi cheeses.

This past summer, Aldi released three specialty Gouda products in the following flavors: spinach artichoke, hot honey, and Sriracha, and Instagram users promptly went wild, sharing their favorites and different dishes they planned to make with the various varieties. Instagrammer @donnathenarwhal commented, "I eat the spinach & artichoke one on soooo many meals," while @abbyisom chimed in, "Sriracha Gouda is amazing on grilled cheese."

It's all Gouda, but which is the best?

Now, a different social media platform, Reddit, is debating what is the best flavor of Aldi's cheeses, specifically its Emporium Selection brand Gouda cheeses: 1,000 day aged, applewood smoked, or smoked. These Goudas are also highly regarded, with the wrapper of the 1,000 day aged marked with a crest reading "Award Winner," while the applewood smoked wrapper notes the cheese was awarded gold by the American Masters of Taste, which "guide[s] consumers to America's superior food and beverage products."

As for the Reddit debate, while one commenter, u/just1cross, had a comical neutral stance, writing, "They all look pretty gouda," others had some pretty concrete opinions. Most users noted their favorite is the 1,000 day aged Gouda, such as u/CostcoDogMom who shared, "The 1000 day might be my favorite cheese ever. I describe it like if Gouda and Parmesan had a baby." Redditor u/Kvmiller1 was a bit more objective, sharing whichever cheese they buy depends on what they're making. "Different cheeses for different things! The 1000 is really good for a cheeseboard or just on its own. We love the smoked Gouda for mac n cheese. And thinly sliced applewood Gouda is fantastic on a burger," they wrote. No matter which Aldi Gouda you buy, it's sure to be a winner.
