Jimmy John's, an Illinois-born chain that's been serving top-tier sandwiches on freshly baked bread since 1983, has several scrumptious handhelds on its menu. The sandwich chain serves high-quality deli meats in the form of cold-cut classics, toasted subs, and new wraps alike, so there's something for everyone. But if you ask brand employees, one sandwich sells above the rest: the Italian Night Club.

According to a Reddit thread in which Jimmy John's workers discussed the most popular sandwich at their respective stores, the #9 came out on top. While the brand hasn't officially dubbed it the best-selling sammy, it is listed as one of the store's favorites. This sandwich is piled high with hand-sliced salami, capocollo, smoked ham, and provolone cheese. As for toppings and condiments, it gets mayonnaise, lettuce, onions, tomato, oil, vinegar, oregano, and basil.

In a Mashed survey, 27% of voters said the Italian Night Club is the best Jimmy John's sandwich. But there are a few unofficial runners-up, per the Reddit thread. For folks who prefer their Italian sub with a kick, there's the Spicy East Coast Italian (double salami and capocollo, provolone, hot Jimmy Peppers, oil, vinegar, onion, lettuce, tomato, mayo). The Beach Club (turkey, provolone, avocado spread, cucumber, lettuce, tomato, mayo) offers lean protein and light, crisp produce. Similarly, the Turkey Tom (turkey, lettuce, tomato, mayo) delivers the essentials to purists.

Jimmy John's Italian Night Club is a fan favorite

The Italian Night Club is among the most popular Jimmy John's menu items. An 8-incher contains 910 calories, 44 grams of fat, 77 grams of carbs, 6 grams of sugar, and 49 grams of protein. Customers can also order it as a 16-inch sub. Prices may vary by location, but the small costs about $9.69 on its own, while a combo with a side and drink costs $14.67.

Jimmy John's originally only sold four sammies: smoked ham and provolone, tuna, capocollo and salami, and turkey. The Italian Night Club was added later, possibly as early as 1987, and was priced at $3.75. Customers used to pay $0.35 per sandwich for delivery — J.J.'s "freaky fast" services are arguably still its claim to fame. The #9 (and the rest of the lineup) is specifically designed to survive the delivery run with its soft roll and last-minute splash of vinaigrette.

Customers swear by this sandwich. "The ingredients, aroma, pleasing texture, the crisp snap of every bite signifying the sub's freshness ... it came upon me like a revelation that this was not only the best Italian sub I'd ever had, but perhaps the best sandwich I'd ever tasted in my entire life," wrote a reviewer for OU Daily. "Italian Night Club with hot peppers is right up there with a Five Guys burger for fast food excellence," a Facebook user expressed. Meanwhile, a Reddit user added, "The Italian Night Club with hot peppers is the only sandwich that gets my money there."
