Who Makes Aldi's Happy Farm-Brand Cheese Items?
Aldi Happy Farms cheese products are popular for being budget friendly and high quality, and there are dozens of varieties within the line, from shredded mozzarella to cream cheese. The individually packaged slices from Aldi's brand are better than Kraft Singles American Slices (or at least as good), according to our taste-tests and other reviewers. And Happy Farms cheese products are generally cheaper — a 16-count package of Happy Farms Sliced American Cheese costs just over $2, while the Kraft equivalent is $3.86 at Walmart. Aldi doesn't make the cheese products sold under this wallet-loving brand, however. Instead, the grocer partners with regional and national suppliers to get cheese items on its shelves. And those suppliers include major manufacturers like Schreiber Foods and Great Lakes Cheese Company, Inc.
Aldi doesn't release formal statements about product sourcing but recall notices do spill a lot of information on Happy Farms' supply chain. Recalls generally affect certain batches of products and not an entire product line, and there have been a couple associated with Aldi in recent years. A recall issued by Great Lakes Cheese Company in 2025 (potential metal shreds in some bagged shredded cheese, via WFMJ) showed the manufacturer makes Happy Farms shredded cheese. Rossen Reports (via YouTube) noted Great Lakes Cheese Company is behind other Happy Farms cheese products as well, like the prepackaged slices. In 2024, Aldi recalled Happy Farms cream cheese, which cited Schreiber Foods as the supplier.
Aldi customers love most of Happy Farms' cheese products
Happy Farms cheese items are at the top of the shopping list for quite a few Aldi customers. They noted the huge selection keeps them coming back for more and there are always a few that land in their cart during every visit.
Happy Farms pre-packaged cheese slices and pre-shredded cheeses are among the items Aldi shoppers grab continuously. "The shredded Mexican blend, Italian blend, and sliced pepper jack are all staples in my house," wrote one shopper on Reddit. "Also frequently in rotation are the goat cheese crumbles, blue cheese crumbles, sliced mozzarella log, burrata, and brie," they said. Reviews praised Happy Farms cheese sticks for being kid friendly and easy to peel. Customers described its flavor as mild and milky without being overpowering. One shopper wrote on Parent Tested Parent Approved website, "They are convenient to take on the go and are just the right size for a quick snack. Also, you can't beat the price."
There are shoppers who voiced different opinions on Happy Farms cheese products, however. Some complained the cheese shreds are flavorless. Others explained they buy blocks of cheese and cut or shred it themselves for better tasting and easier-melting cheese. Happy Farms basic cream cheese is another option some reviewers considered a miss. It also landed on our list of cheeses you shouldn't be buying from Aldi. Reviewers online reported it's sour with a texture that doesn't soften as well as other brands.
