It's easy to see how the savings quickly adds up. If you fill up when the Sam's Club price is 24 cents lower than competing stations, the amount saved after just 250 gallons will cover the yearly $60 Club membership. A $120 Plus membership will be paid after 500 gallons. Of course, prices fluctuate so savings will vary, but for those who spend a lot of time on the road, this alone could make membership worth it.

Access to cheaper gas is one of the significant advantages of having a Sam's Club membership. Making use of discounted promotions that sometimes pop up on sites like Groupon and Hip2Save can make your first year of membership even cheaper. And club members with a Sam's Club brand MasterCard save even more by earning 5% cash back on the first $6,000 spent on gas each year (and 1% on purchases made after). The cash-back perk works at any gas station that accepts MasterCard, but if you're at a Sam's Club station, it's an extra bonus on top of your already low members-only per-gallon price. 

Additionally, Sam's Club Plus and Walmart+, two grocery store loyalty programs that are totally worth it, recently joined together into a two-for-the-price-of-one membership. This means that Sam's Club Plus members are now able to access 10 cents off per gallon at participating Walmart and affiliate stations. This is a huge win for members living in regions that don't have a conveniently located Sam's Club members-only station. When traveling, you no longer need to look for a Sam's Club with a gas station to fill up and enjoy savings. A Walmart or affiliate station will do.
