Good News For Fans Who Miss The Great British Baking Show

Nothing lasts forever, and that goes double for anything as ephemeral as a TV program. Although some of the longest-running shows, according to Mental Floss, have hit the half-century mark, including the "Tonight Show" (67 years) and "Sesame Street" (52 years and counting), it's rare for any show to make it to its 10th anniversary. Kiwi Report says the average show lasts between seven and eight years, and refers to Season 8 as being a "death sentence."

Well, "The Great British Baking Show" has evidently been spared for yet another season. The show, which began in 2010, has seen some upheaval over the past five years (via IMDb). In 2016, the series moved from BBC to Channel 4, with hosts Mel Giedroyc, Sue Perkins, and Mary Berry leaving the program to be replaced by Noel Fielding, Prue Leith, and Sandi Toksvig. Toksvig herself departed at a later date, with her spot taken by Matt Lucas (to the surprise of everyone who'd predicted a different host). Only Paul Hollywood remains from the original cast. Well, Digital Spy reports that the current lineup of Fielding, Leith, Lucas, and Hollywood will all be reunited under the big white tent as the show rolls into Season 12.

Fans can't wait for their favorite baking series to be back

While we don't have all the details on the newest season of "The Great British Baking Show," it seems like Season 12 is definitely on. The show's official social media account tweeted a short video clip of the iconic white tent ... just the tent. Plus a bunch of trees. The caption was slightly more informative, reading, "Loaf is in the air... The Great British Bake Off. Coming Soon." A little more information was provided by Paul Hollywood, Mr. GBBS himself. In a recent Instagram post he shared a pic of the Fab Four. No, not the Beatles, as two of them are sadly no longer with us, but himself, Lucas, Leith, and Fielding. They were all smiles as they posed with a variety of yummy-looking "bakes," and Hollywood captioned his pic, "Bake Off is back soon ....."

At this point we don't have any additional details about when the series will air, who the contestants will be, or what challenges they're likely to face, but all will be revealed in due time. One thing we do know, however, is that fans are beyond thrilled. As one person tweeted, "YES!!!! I am so ready to adopt and love all these talented and new bakers for the next 12 weeks," while another Twitter user feels that "All is right with the world when bake off is on."
