If you are looking for the appetizer that will impress at an upcoming holiday party, then you are looking in the right place with this Brie apple honey crostini recipe from recipe developer Erin Johnson. And by the way, if you're looking for a perfect side dish for a light lunch, a great starter for a feast of a dinner, or one very fancy yet simple snack to enjoy while watching your favorite show, then you are definitely looking in the right place for all of those, too.

"This would be delicious with a salad or soup to round out a meal," Johnson explains, adding that this dish is also "perfect for game day or a holiday party." And a chef of any level of experience really will have success here. "If you can slice, you can make this," Johnson quips. You can slice, can't you? We knew it. Now if you can just gather a mere six ingredients together, do that bit of slicing, some pan cooking and stirring, and some quick baking, we can get on with the making of this sweet and savory Brie apple honey crostini.

Gather the ingredients to make Brie apple honey crostini

As noted, in only takes a handful of ingredients to make this delectable dish. These ingredients include an apple, a round of Brie cheese, a loaf of French bread, two tablespoons of butter, a tablespoon plus a teaspoon of honey (divided), a decent pinch of salt, and five generous slices of prosciutto. "This can be made without prosciutto or can be made with bacon instead and still be delicious," says Johnson, adding that they will "sometimes throw dried cranberries in with the apples to give an additional fall flavor pop."

Slice the bread, apples, and Brie

To start things off, preheat your oven to 400 F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or with a silicone baking mat. Now wash the apples (or peel them, though the skin does add nice flavor and texture) and slice them so they're nice and thin. Next, slice the Brie cheese into equally thin pieces — it's easier to cut it when it's cold, so you may want to keep it in the fridge up until this point. Now slice bread into ¼- to ½-inch slices on the diagonal, which will optimize the amount of space in each bread slice and make for the perfect crostini bite.

Cook the apples in butter, then add honey

Now, melt the butter in a large skillet, and then add in the sliced apples. Cook the apples in the butter for five minutes, stirring often. After the five minutes have passed, add one tablespoon of the honey. Stir and cook for two additional minutes, then add the pinch of salt. Stir again to combine everything, then cut the heat and remove the pan from the stove. Now you're ready to assemble and bake the crostini!

Assemble then bake the crostini

Lay out the sliced bread on the prepared baking sheet, evenly placing each slice in spaced rows. Next, put the Brie slices onto the bread and then top those off with apples and prosciutto. And just like that, you're ready to bake. "You can assemble these ahead of time and refrigerate until you are ready to bake," Johnson notes. Pop the baking sheet into the heated oven bake the crostini until the cheese is bubbly, which will take approximately 10 minutes.

Now drizzle the crostini with the remaining honey, serve, and enjoy! Whether you want to make this simple recipe as a dinner side or for your next holiday party, there's no doubt that everyone will be coming back to grab seconds of these Brie apple honey crostinis!
