The TikTok Chef Who Shares Hilarious Deadpan Reactions To Cooking Videos
TikTok has evidently veered away from being a social network solely dedicated to viral choreographed dances — with the exception of the latest sensation that is Lizzo's "About Damn Time." In any case, the video creation app has evolved into a platform for all types of users — more than one billion, to be exact, according to Hootsuite — to easily share their thoughts on hot topics, promote new products, and show viewers how to whip up simple, delicious meals step by step. Some TikTokers, namely The Pasta Queen, Baked By Melissa, and Daniel McCoin, are everyday folks who have become foodie influencers in their own right, garnering millions of followers and engagements.
But what happens when professional chefs join TikTok and catch wind of these kitchen dabblers' food videos? To put it lightly, hilarity ensues. Gordon Ramsay, for example, is known for his superior culinary skills and oftentimes merciless personality. He is also a fan of the app's "stitch" feature (which allows users to combine their video with someone else's in a side-by-side display), specifically to provide feedback on amateurs' barbaric or unorthodox preparation methods. There is another far less famous chef with a TikTok account, and his posts also involve abrasive critiques. Let's just say, though, he's not as animated as Chef Ramsay.
Chef Reactions offers harsh criticisms of cooking videos
While a number of people swear by their own unique recipes, which they feel compelled to contribute to the world via social media, several pro cooks, in turn, feel the need to voice their opinions on the atrocities — or even pleasant surprises. TikToker Chef Reactions — whose real name and workplace are seemingly anonymous, per Mandatory — boasts over 300,000 followers and four million likes. His profile bio reads, "side of sarcasm, extra salt, BS allergy" — all of which are apparent in his hilarious posts, in which his deep, monotone voice and poker face take center stage as he evaluates submitted food videos.
Just a few examples of recipes Chef Reactions has reviewed include ones for a peculiar drink made with beets and rice, a SpaghettiOs pie, and "chocolate milk" made from raw liver. Not every recipe is met with disdain, though. A Coca-Cola braised rib à la Chef Genevieve LaMona and breakfast tacos by @cooking_with_fire were praised by the short-tempered cook.
His videos typically end with him rating the dish on a 10-point scale and expressing whether or not he'd eat it. Clearly, however, some users don't appreciate the chef's crude language. He even revealed in one recent video that he was permanently banned from the app for disobeying community guidelines but was able to revive his account. As the saying goes, if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.
