  • James runs half-marathons and has a particular interest in nutrition and how food fuels the body.
  • He loves to travel and thinks the best way to explore a city is through its unique restaurants and bars. He has enjoyed cocktails in locations frequented by Ernest Hemingway, Charles Dickens, and Raymond Chandler.
  • His grandmother taught him how to cook, and he still has the faded index card on which she wrote her meatball recipe.

Experience

James moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas and, at the age of 18, became one of the youngest bartenders on the city's notorious Sixth Street. He went on to hold nearly every position in the service industry — from bar manager to line cook. He created a blog that pairs essential records from Austin's famed music scene with cocktail recipes that complement the music. James is passionate about food and fascinated by the historical narrative that is documented in recipes and ingredients. He is constantly looking for the how and the why behind an interesting cocktail or dish.

Education

James studied journalism at The University of Texas.
