Drinking Coffee From A Donut Has Instagram Seriously Divided
The coffee industry never stops surprising us. Shops in the U.S., like Dunkin' and Starbucks, let fans mix hot or iced drinks with creative flavors like butter pecan, Irish creme, and pistachio. And who can forget the ever-popular pumpkin spice? Though it seems like a standard coffee flavor at this point, it had Starbucks fans buzzing with excitement when it first hit the scene in 2003.
When we thought we couldn't get enough, Instagram user @dinewithfari shared a reel with a new, interesting, and highly sweetened way of drinking coffee. In the video, Fari enjoys a drink that looks like a cappuccino — complete with a heart-shaped foam and two shots of espresso — but is served inside a glazed donut "cup." The London-based café that serves it calls its creation the "conut." Is your mouth watering? If so, not everyone on the internet agrees with you.
Instagram thinks coffee and donuts should be eaten separately
Although one user said they were on their way to get the conut, most commenters felt this beverage was trying too hard — and an insult to the Italian tradition of drinking coffee. "This is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. One sip [and] the ride is over. Very photogenic though!" one user replied. Another commenter blamed the Industrial Revolution for this kind of creation, while others said it was a sign we were becoming "disgusting" as human beings.
Most complaints were because the post showed we just can't stick with eating donuts and having coffee separately. Also, it looked like the conut was soggy at the end. Fari replied and claimed the Nutella layer helped avoid sogginess and added that standard coffee drinks can be found anywhere. Luckily, not everything was hateful. "This is brilliant and I wish America had invented it first," said another commenter. Coffee-filled donuts may not be unique to the U.K., though. This combination was offered by an Australian bakery back in 2017.
Like many things in the world of food and coffee, it all boils down to personal taste. Although it looks quite Instagram-worthy, only trying the conut will determine whether this is brilliant or an absurd invention.
