As You Wish: The Truth About The Princess Bride Pop-Up Bar

As You Wish, a Princess Bride-themed pop-up bar housed in Chicago's The Sixth Bar located at 2202 W. Lawrence Avenue, which opened February 11 will be ending its run on March 22. But before the story ends, here's what you need to know to have fun stormin' the castle.

The Princess Bride is a 1980s cult classic movie about a kid from Chicago, home sick for the day, whose grandfather stops by to read him a fairy tale adventure. There's the Dread Pirate Roberts, Princess Buttercup, a battle of the wits, a mighty duel, R.O.U.S. aka rodents of unusual size, a giant, and, of course twue wuve. The film had an all-star cast, featuring Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Billy Crystal, Mandy Patinkin, and the list goes on (via Princess Bride Forever).

The As You Wish pop-up bar, located in Chicago's Lincoln Square neighborhood, pays homage to all things Princess Bride by offering replicated scenes from the film. Think fairy tale thrones, tiaras fit for a princess, and life-size cutouts of the characters waiting to be snapped and shared on Instagram. According to a CNN report, the seating areas are decorated to honor several of the movies most unforgettable characters like Westley, Inigo Montoya, Fezzik, and Vizzini.

What you'll drink at the Princess Bride pop-up bar

Dave Andrews, a spokesman for Fifty/50 Restaurant Group, which includes The Sixth Bar, told CNN, "Having a fully immersive experience is what makes people happy. Heavy Easter eggs around one-off things from the movie that aren't super mainstream and people are into and are nods to those things [that] make people really happy as well."

Additionally, there are 16 adult beverages aptly named after some of the movie's most quoted lines. These include "Twue Wuve," "Wat Bwings Us Togeder," and "A Shortage of Perfect Breasts." And don't worry, while the mixologist shakes some hip ingredients to create your poison of choice, no Iocane powder will be used (via Eater Chicago).

Capacity for the bar is 65 people and seating is first come, first served. So forget about social distancing, grab your twue wuve or gather the brute squad, and enjoy this bar's charm because it can do you no harm. The Princess Bride-themed pop up is open Monday through Thursday, 5 p.m. to midnight, Friday 5 p.m. to 2 a. m., Saturday 5 p.m. tp 3 a.m., and Sunday 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. And remember to bring a little extra cash to buy a souvenir t-shirt because like any good fairy tale, on March 22, As You Wish ends happily ever after.
