Who Manufactures LG Kitchen Appliances?
Kitchen appliances are usually large purchases, especially if you end up choosing the most overpriced brands. So, when you're in the market for new devices, the last thing you want is to end up with a lemon. It's a good idea to look into the major brands and learn about how they operate and their reputations to help you decide. One thing you might want to know is who is doing the manufacturing, since many companies don't make their own products. But that's not the case with LG, whose parent company LG Electronics manufactures the appliances.
The South Korean corporation has factory facilities in different parts of the world that produce devices for their respective regions. The main ones are in South Korea and China for Asian consumers and in Mexico and the U.S. for the Americas. There are three big plants in Mexico and a large factory in Clarksville, Tennessee, that opened in 2019. Some other smaller facilities are in Indonesia, Vietnam, India, Poland, and Russia. At the same time, workers may be making the appliances with parts that were produced elsewhere.
A longtime player in the industry, LG began as Goldstar in 1958. It grew out of Lucky Chemical, which was founded in 1947. The company adopted the name Lucky Goldstar in 1983 and became LG Electronics in 1995. The main kitchen appliances it makes are refrigerators, dishwashers, different kinds of ranges and stoves, wall ovens, and microwaves. Its basic line is LG, the intermediate tier is LG Studio, and the high-end line is Signature Kitchen Suite (SKS).
LG did well in rankings, but consumers seem split
Whatever the manufacturer is doing seems to be working. LG came out on top in a 2026 Consumer Reports ranking of reliable kitchen appliance brands (via LG). It also excelled in a reliability ranking put together by a company called Yale Appliance. The latter kept track of first-year service calls it made for products it sold in the Boston, Cape Cod, and southern New Hampshire region where it operates. The basic line came in second, and LG Studio and SKS both finished in the top 11.
When you're trying to find information like the typical lifespan of an LG dishwasher or how long the brand's refrigerators hold up, what customers say can be helpful. Opinions on social media have been more divided than the rankings. Some people were happy with the company, like the Redditor who said, "A couple of houses ago I redid the kitchen with all LG appliances ... They were fantastic for the 3 years until I sold the house and left them with it." But another person's comment reflected unwanted experiences: "I've got an LG dishwasher, and it seems built to fail." Someone in a different Reddit thread shared that the brand may have addressed a shortcoming with its refrigerators: "From what I've read they used to have a compressor problem that they've since updated and their compressor has a warranty on it."
