Whether it's hot dogs, patties, or multiple bags of tortilla chips, Costco's aisles have always been a good place to hit with a summer cookout shopping list in hand. While stocking up on various condiments to please picky family members, did you know you can also upgrade your at-home grill setup? Costco Kirkland Signature gas grills launched in 2023 accompanied by a lot of fanfare about the sleek design. But Costco isn't making these substantial appliances in-house; instead, Kirkland grill warranties and parts for certain models point to California-based Nexgrill as the company behind at least some of the grills, while interested Redditors have also come to the same conclusion.
While this might be the first time a lot of shoppers have heard of Nexgrill, the company has some pedigree. It's been in the grill and outdoor cooking business for over 30 years and as well as possibly supplying Costco its grills, it supplies the U.K.'s George at Asda brand, too. The grills come in 6-, 7-, and 12-burner sizes and are listed on the Costco website for $899.99, $1,999.99 and $3,999.99, respectively. The smaller models are best suited to cozy family meals and the hefty 12-burner for all-out hosting, with the added privilege of a swanky stone-look island.
Is Costco's Kirkland Signature gas grill worth buying?
These grills have a lot of things going for them. Not least, the smart stainless-steel design. Far from just an aesthetic choice, the steel is graded 304, which means it won't rust easily and should withstand some rough weather. And for anyone that's guilty of leaving a burner running while they tend to a box of beers, the LED knobs change color to signify if the burners are still on so you can tell at a quick glance. Another standout feature is the infrared capability shared by both the smaller version and 12-burner behemoth. This intense heat is perfect for the reverse sear method of evenly grilling steaks. Finally, and most importantly for some, consumers love the price point, which is in keeping with Kirkland's affordable prices.
But it's not all glowing feedback. Some of the grill's biggest detractors point to the gold standard of grilling. "Get a Weber. Built way better and replacement parts are easy to come by," wrote one customer on Reddit. "Spend the money and buy a Weber," added another. With 70 years of grill experience under its belt and a reputation for quality, it's a fair criticism. Plus, Weber parts are easier to find if something goes wrong, and some commenters mentioned these off-brand grills can be finicky to fix.
