There are several white wines from Sam's Club under $20, and many of them are just as good as higher-priced bottles (especially if you keep in mind these things to know before buying a cheap bottle of wine). Sam's Club's house alcohol brand, Member's Mark, consistently ranks as one of the top grocery store alcohol brands, according to customers. One shopper favorite in particular is the Member's Mark sauvignon blanc. But who is the winemaker behind this beloved vintage?

According to the bottle label, this sauvignon blanc is produced and bottled by Wakefield Downs Vineyards, located at 6 Fielder Close in Blenheim, a town in the New Zealand region of Marlborough. This address can be traced to Babich Wines, a family winemaker with several vineyards across Marlborough, including Wakefield Downs. Babich Wines was originally started in 1916 by a Croatian immigrant, Josip Babich; his grandsons, David and André, now work there. They bought the Wakefield Downs land — all 103 acres of it — back in 1998. Member's Mark Sauvignon Blanc is imported by Mack & Schuhle Inc., a company located in Key Biscayne, Florida.

What does the Sam's Club Member's Mark sauvignon blanc taste like?

Sauvignon blanc is a white wine that's known for being crisp, juicy, and acidic. The label of the Sam's Club Member's Mark version lists the tasting notes as citrus, gooseberry, and melon, with a zesty, herby finish. Other descriptions include lemongrass, apple, and orange blossom. It's aged for three months in stainless steel tanks; this limits the oxygen exposure to keep the flavor crisp and fruit-forward.

Because of its flavor profile, the Sam's Club Member's Mark sauvignon blanc is best enjoyed with lighter foods. Try it with an apple goat cheese salad or strawberry walnut salad. It also pairs well with spices and herbs like basil and mint, so consider adding those to the dish. But the best way to serve this sauvignon blanc is with white meat like chicken and turkey or fresh fish, including oysters and mussels.

Reviews on the Sam's Club website are positive, with an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars. Most comments praise the fresh taste; some note a grapefruit flavor but appreciate that it's not too tart. The 2024 vintage was awarded a gold medal by USA Wine Ratings. On Reddit, users mention it as a nice cooking wine, too. And at just $7 a bottle, it's a steal for your next dinner party.
