The Detail You Missed On Alex Drummond's Wedding Cake
A wedding cake (especially one as special as the cake for Alex Drummond's big day) isn't just a dessert — but The Pioneer Woman wasn't about to go to the nearest Oklahoma Costco for one of their sheet cakes, now was she? Ree Drummond shared the details about the spectacular cake on The Pioneer Woman blog, writing that Alex Drummond and new husband Mauricio Scott's six-tier cake was created by Amy Cakes in Oklahoma — one of the 100 best cake designers in the U.S., according to Brides magazine (via Amy Cakes).
Flavor might not be the first consideration when it comes to wedding cakes, but Alex and Mauricio tasted seven different flavors before choosing their favorite two. The cake alternated between white and strawberry, with a Swiss meringue buttercream icing. Not only did the wedding cake taste good, it ended up being as beautiful as everything else in the reception, which was bursting with more roses than Mauricio said he had ever seen in one place before.
Did you spot this special detail on Alex's wedding cake?
Cake maker Amy Cullifer of Amy's Cake's (who has been baking wedding cakes for over 30 years!) included a subtle but impressive detail to make sure Alex's Drummond's wedding cake matched the rest of the event's impressive visual experience. Amy Cakes dressed up the sides of the wedding cake with edible lace that matched the Monique Lhuillier dress worn by Alex on the day of her nuptials (via The Pioneer Woman).
To add even more dimension to the cake, Amy Cakes draped the six-tier cake with springtime flowers appropriate for the wedding's season — Alex and Mauricio were hitched May 1 on the expansive Drummond ranch. The cake's flowers were pink, blue, and white, to match the overall wedding décor. We're sure all of the guests couldn't wait for a slice, the perfect way to top off that Ree Drummond-approved meal.
