16 Celebs You Didn't Know Shop At Costco

Celebrities are just like us — they have mundane days and guilty pleasures like the average person, which includes shopping at Costco. The wholesale retailer is a right of passage for so many people looking for a good deal and a tasty sample while they shop. Costco has such an allure to it, from its $1.50 hot dog combo to its Kirkland Signature brand of items, that even Hollywood's most elite can't stay away.

Costco opened its first location in the mid-1970s, so it's been a staple establishment of American culture for decades. There's just something unique about the members-only shopping club that keeps loyal fans coming back (and shelling out those annual fees). It's not shocking that even A-listers can't keep away from Costco's charm and endless aisles of deals.

We found several celebrities who are self-proclaimed Costco lovers. Each person has their reason for being loyal to the chain, and you might be surprised that it aligns with your personal favorite perks of Costco.

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey is not just a celebrity who loves Costco — she helped further incite Costco Mania in the early 2000s. She featured herself shopping at Costco in a 2003 segment of her show. It was her first visit to the store after hearing plenty of buzz from her friends. Winfrey was in awe, like the rest of us, that you can buy diamonds and toilet paper under one roof. She's also donned the cover of the Costco Connection magazine and the store has been known to carry a few of Winfrey's signature favorite things, including books in her book club.

Oprah did admit in 2017 she rarely visits a grocery store, so it's unlikely you'd see her shopping at Costco sans a camera crew. Regardless, her fandom of the store probably means she does a lot of Costco online shopping for delivery or sends an assistant to the wholesale club with a detailed list.

Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish is one celebrity who loves everything about Costco. When asked about her goals for the future after getting her driver's license, all Eilish could think of was driving to Costco to go shopping. Fans of the "Bad Guy" singer have also spotted Eilish perusing the aisles of Costco, likely looking for some of her favorite Kirkland Signature products.

Eilish also revealed what some of those items are with her social media followers. Once on Instagram, Eilish shared a step-by-step guide for creating her favorite recipe for vegan peanut butter cookies. The key ingredient was Kirkland Signature organic peanut butter, which any Costco shopper knows is a staple on the store's cavernous shelves. "FYI this is my FAVORITE PEANUT BUTTER IN THE WORLD so I always use this for everything," she wrote about the jar. It's likely that whether you're a big fan of Eilish's music or not, you can probably agree with her peanut butter opinions that Kirkland Signature is a foolproof jar.

John Mayer

John Mayer isn't just a celebrity that loves Costco — he's downright captivated with all things Kirkland Signature. Mayer chronicled his first trip to Costco in 2014, where he was in shock and awe at everything the store had to offer.  After that trip, it was a lifelong obsession for the "Your Body Is A Wonderland" singer. Mayer is seemingly on a permanent hunt for the Kirkland Signature version of everything. He claimed once to have spent $700 on a pair of Kirkland sneakers. He also shared a custom Kirkland Signature guitar pedal that commemorates his love of music and all things Costco.

Mayer posts so often about Costco and its in-house brand that he's even developed his own hashtag, #KirkBoys. It signifies himself and other die-hard fans of Kirkland Signature as a cohesive group. There is so much evidence that proves Mayer is the epitome of a celebrity who loves everything about Costco.

Jimmy Kimmel

Jimmy Kimmel is one of late night's biggest Costco fans. The "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" host has gone on plenty of rants on his show about the store. In one monologue, he goes into the ins and outs of Costco etiquette, including the proper way to navigate aisles with a cart or to approach the food court after a shopping trip. "What I would like to do is cut out the middle man completely and just move into a Costco," he said during the 2017 segment.

Kimmel experienced some serious Costco fan inception when the wholesale club began carrying the comedian's "The Serious Goose" children's book on its shelves, which had to be a full-circle moment. He even let it slip once during a live segment that he bought his wife Molly McNearney's engagement ring at Costco. Kimmel isn't just a Costco hobbyist — it's an integral part of his life story.

Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba is a widely-recognized actress known for roles in films like "Fantastic Four" and "Honey" who also has an affinity for shopping at Costco. She's been a loyal Costco shopper for years. Back in 2010, the actress was spotted hitting up the electronics section of the wholesale club for some much-needed upgrades. She purchased a TV, a few receivers, and a DVD player during her trip, and that was just the beginning of her connection to the brand.

Alba's Honest Company, which sells baby and beauty products, is a staple on Costco shelves. The brand sells items like shampoo and diapers at Costco's many stores and beyond. Alba might not frequent the wholesale retailer on a Saturday afternoon to get free samples and restocks of Honest products, but there's no doubt she has a love for the major retailer even if she opts for Costco online delivery.

Ryan Seacrest

Ryan Seacrest is another celebrity who has an unusual connection to Costco. Again, he's not somebody you're likely to run into while stocking up on bulk products and pantry items, but he has expressed love for the brand. One unexpected way he's shown his admiration for Costco is when he gifted pop sensation Justin Bieber a Costco membership for his 18th birthday. Seacrest proclaimed that he had been waiting for the moment for Bieber to become a legal adult so that he can grant him the gift of Costco entry. It's not exactly the most predictable gift that you'd imagine the "American Idol" host to give Bieber, but it sure is practical.

Seacrest was excited to be able to give Bieber the gift of "jugs of salsa and buckets of hummus," he said on his radio show. Bieber was grateful for the "amazing" gift, even though Seacrest might have overhyped the $60 membership card a bit more than Bieber was expecting.

Megan Fox

Megan Fox may be a popular film actress whose a household name, but she's also a loyal Costco fan. Fox has been spotted shopping with her now ex-husband Brian Austin Green at a Costco and stocking up on toilet paper and other household essentials at their local Costco location. Fox hasn't been spotted doing her own shopping for Kirkland Signature basics in several years, so it's likely she has someone else going out to do her shopping and regular errands for her.

Fox has also shouted out the wholesale retailer in more subtle ways. The "Transformers" star has always been asked about her constantly-changing tattoos. She's frequently adding and removing ink from her body, but it's part of her identity. When asked whether or not she's worried about not getting acting roles because of her tattoos, she replied that if so, she would just quit the Hollywood lifestyle and go work at Costco. It would be quite a sight to walk into a store and see Fox handing out samples or checking membership cards, but it wouldn't be a bad gig for any self-proclaimed Costco fan.

Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul

Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul are best known as the duo from "Breaking Bad" who have become real-life (and fully legal) business partners. The two launched Dos Hombres mezcal in 2019 and have been promoting the brand ever since at a variety of bars and liquor stores, including in some Costco warehouse locations.

In March 2023, the acting pair were spotted in a San Diego Costco location as a promotion for the liquor company. During their visit, the two were seen signing autographs for eager fans and handing out sample shots of Dos Hombres to anyone 21 and older who wanted to try the agave spirit. Cranston, whose birthday fell around the promotional event, even celebrated at Costco with a sheet cake. Workers and Costco customers alike gathered to sing to the actor, meaning that Costco will likely hold a special place in Cranston's heart for years to come.

Bethenny Frankel

Fans of "The Real Housewives of New York City" are familiar with Bethenny Frankel and her brand of SkinnyGirl products. One fan who doubles as a Costco member will also know that Frankel and the store are tight. Costco has sold a variety of SkinnyGirl products in the past, from popcorn to margaritas. She also runs a relief organization BStrong that provides aid to those in need after various disasters, and she's been known to give out gift cards to Costco as part of those charitable efforts.

Back in her Bravo days, Frankel even wrote about her love of Costco on a public blog for "Real Housewives" fans. "I live for bulk stores in general, but Costco is, as I said, my religion," her Bravo post reads. She mentioned particularly liking to buy useful items like Clorox wipes and whole wheat pasta, but she's also known to splurge for King Crab legs and dried blueberries.

Martha Stewart

Martha Stewart is a famous face for her cooking tips and homemaking recipes, so she is well aware of the wonders of Costco. Whether it's providing a recipe to upgrade the humble Costco rotisserie chicken or selling her own branded home goods in the giant wholesale club, Stewart and Costco go way back. It's why you will still find some of her branded products, like linens, lurking in the Costco aisles even to this day.

Stewart's been known to name-drop Costco on her various TV programs, whether they be sponsored or not. She's also another celebrity who has at least entered a Costco once on their own accord, as she visited a Connecticut location back in 2010 for a book signing. However, we have a hard time imagining Stewart braving the Saturday sample crowd to get her hands on that famous rotisserie chicken for a quick weeknight meal.

Mark Zuckerberg

Mark Zuckerberg might be a tech giant with more than $70 billion to his name, but that doesn't mean he can't appreciate a good deal at Costco. Back in 2020, the Facebook founder was spotted at a Costco wholesale club in California doing a little shopping. Instead of opting for a slice of pizza or a bulk bag of chicken nuggets, Zuckerberg hit up the tech section of the store.

The Meta CEO and his wife Priscilla Chan were checking out the TV section in awe, as the rest of us typically are in Costco. It wasn't reported whether or not Zuckerberg ended up leaving his local store with a new screen (or a $1.50 hot dog combo, for that matter). It's still a bit shocking to see a billionaire do his own shopping, especially at a place like Costco where people typically shop to save money.

Christine Quinn

Christine Quinn is a fashionista/celebrity real estate agent that is best known for appearing on Netflix's "Selling Sunset." Quinn might love getting dressed to the nines in designer looks, but she also isn't afraid to mix in some lower-end pieces. In fact, Quinn won't even count out shopping in the clothing section of Costco.

The "Selling Sunset" star likes the affordability of staple items like black leggings that she can find in the haphazard apparel section of Costco stores. "It's all about sustainability," Quinn told the Wall Street Journal about her mix-and-match sense of fashion. "When I say 'sustainability,' I'm not talking about the environment — although that's great — I'm talking about your wallet." It sounds like Quinn has the potential to be the new spokesperson for Costco since she gets the ethos of getting quality items at a great price. It also goes to show that even celebrities aren't too good to wear clothes from Costco, so there shouldn't be a stigma around it.

Barack Obama

Former President Barak Obama is a huge Costco fan, but not because he's often seen doing his own shopping in the big box store. President Obama touted plenty of praise for Costco during his political career, especially when he was pushing for a raise in the national minimum wage. President Obama used Costco as a prime example of a business that pays its employees well over the minimum wage and has seen major benefits. Not only did Costco's profit margins increase, but the retail business also upped employee retention and productivity in its stores.

"I guarantee you if workers have more money in their pocket, they'll spend more at Costco," Obama said during a 2014 State of the Union address (via ABC News). The former president even visited a Costco in Maryland during this campaign, where he observed happy employees stocking produce and handing out samples, which is an experience many Costco shoppers can relate to.

Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey is an alternative music sensation, but she's not too cool to head to Costco to stock up on essentials. She posted on Facebook a melancholy photo outside of a Costco in California in 2020. She's standing in front of the store wearing a mask, while the smoke from the Santa Clarita Fires can be seen billowing over the mountains behind her. It's not an enthusiastic endorsement of the store, but it does fit Del Rey's aesthetic vibe.

In a separate instance, Del Rey made a joke in an Instagram comment about what a shopping experience at Costco is like for those who have never been. She mentioned that it can get aggressive when the story is busy. "And I found it strange I was the only one riding along on my cart doing wheelies," Del Rey's Instagram comment reads (via u/thewb39 on Reddit). "I mean it's a happy place, get happy?" It seems like an obvious joke, but it would be a sight to behold to see a pop sensation doing wheelies in the Costco aisles.

Mitt Romney

Costco's founders are known for backing the Democratic party, but that doesn't stop former Republican presidential candidate-slash-senator Mitt Romney from doing a little shopping. The politician and his wife Ann Romney were spotted in 2012 at a Costco location in California, where they were stocking up on all of the household necessities.

Most of their shopping list was typical — bottled water, paper plates, and Dixie cups, just like many shoppers buy on a regular basis. The Romney family's Costco snacks of choice were V8 drinks and pretzel snacks. They did venture out of the food section to check out the toy aisle, where the Romneys ended up purchasing a model car toy that was probably a gift for a child in their life. It goes to show that whether you're an A-list celebrity or a major U.S. politician, no one is too good to do some bargain hunting at Costco.

Kris Jenner

Any fan of "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" will remember that matriarch Kris Jenner is the ultimate Costco shopper. Jenner has filmed inside the store and out for her family's TV series, and she has been spotted bulk shopping for toilet paper and baby toys in her free time. She has also proudly boasted of having a bunker in preparation for an earthquake or other natural disaster that's full of bulk goodies, most of which she buys at Costco.

One might expect Jenner to send her assistant to Costco to do her shopping for her, which probably is the case most of the time. However, she also likes to go and see the deals for herself. "Costco is a passion," Jenner told the New York Times in 2015. "Costco is like a massage." Her favorite items include salmon with herb butter, oatmeal-raisin cookies, and other miscellaneous products. Jenner will even be swayed by a surfboard if it's sold in a Costco store, even though she doesn't surf, that's how much she loves what they have to offer.
