Fans Are Speculating On Who The Cupcake Is On The Masked Singer
Fans of "The Masked Singer" have something to chew on after the September 29 episode: a tall, purple and blue cupcake with long eyelashes and huge green go-go boots. This particular masked singer would have looked out of place on "Cupcake Wars," but the judges on "The Masked SInger" were full of enthusiasm as they ventured to guess Cupcake's identity. Typically, the show draws its performers from the ranks of famous athletes, nearly forgotten actors and recording artists, and even the occasional social media influencer (via Cosmopolitan). When it came time on the most recent episode of "The Masked Singer" for the judges to speculate on who Cupcake might be, some big names were floated, including Whoopi Goldberg, Tina Turner, Roberta Flack, and RuPaul (via YouTube). Cupcake performed "Heat Wave," a song that was a No. 1 hit for Martha and the Vandellas in 1963 (via uDiscoverMusic). This might have led some judges to guess R&B singers. Those long go-go boots certainly suggested RuPaul — a guess put forward by two of the four judges on the show.
Cupcake on The Masked Singer might be Leslie Jones
The secret to success for "The Masked Singer" lies in just how social media-friendly it is. The judges put in their two cents after a masked singer performs, then the rest of the world gets to weigh in on Twitter and other platforms.
When venturing a guess about Cupcake's identity, Twitter user @venomvader1 used the tried-and-true approach of listening with eyes closed. "Sounded like @RuPaul. If you've listened to his music you'll know he has a distinction to his voice," they said. Someone else on Twitter liked an outside-the-box guess offered by "Masked Singer" judge Nicole Scherzinger: a certain recent cast member on "Saturday Night Live." "Leslie Jones was a good guess," @VenicePandaMom tweeted. "She has sung on SNL and she is tall!"
Some social media guessers were thrown off by the deep, Leslie Jones-esque voice. "I think this is a guy," one Twitter user said. "As the performance went on I was getting Jon Bon Jovi vibes." More than one commenter, including one on "The Masked Singer's" clue video on YouTube, thought it was RuPaul because it sounded like the cupcake had his distinctive laugh.
But RuPaul may not jibe with something Cupcake said in that same clues video: "It's been a long time since I've been solo. I'm used to sharing the spotlight." Nobody asked, but we're going to double down on Scherzinger and @VenicePandaMom's guess: Is it Leslie Jones?
