Del Taco Breakfast Menu Items, Ranked Worst To Best

Del Taco was founded by Ed Hackbarth and David Jameson in Yerma, California, in 1964. After its founding, this fast food chain quickly became a beloved destination for tacos, fries, hamburgers, and more. By the end of the 1970s, the chain had established around 100 restaurants. In the 1980s, the Del Taco business experienced further expansion and began to stay open 24 hours a day. Today, Del Taco has 597 locations across the United States. It is widely regarded as one of the top Mexican fast food chains in the country.

If you've found yourself in a fast food breakfast rut and want to try something new, consider going to Del Taco for breakfast. Most Del Taco locations serve breakfast between the hours of 11 p.m. and 11 a.m. (via Breakfast Offers). This fast food chain has some delicious breakfast items that will keep you coming back over and over again (via Del Taco). While a lot of Del Taco's breakfast items are marvelous, some menu items should be skipped completely.

13. Breakfast Rollers

The Breakfast Rollers from Del Taco's breakfast menu may seem like a worthwhile choice. This menu item appears to be a soft, tasty, and convenient breakfast option with an attractively inexpensive price tag. Unfortunately, if you pick the Breakfast Rollers, you'll understand the common expression that asks you not to judge a book by its cover. These breakfast burritos are so forgettable that you'll instantly wish you picked a different menu item and avoided such a lackluster breakfast.

The overriding issue is the dry, chalk-like tortilla. The puny amount of filling inside the tortilla isn't nearly enough to make a noticeable difference. Eating one of these burritos is about as fun as eating a greasy napkin. The Breakfast Rollers can be ordered with just egg and cheese or with bacon. Sadly, even the addition of bacon is simply not enough to turn this Del Taco breakfast item into an appetizing meal. The next time you're perusing the Del Taco menu, you better skip this item and keep looking.

12. Donut Bites

Donuts are typically a safe menu option that provide a safe and reliable way to start your day off on the right foot. Sadly, the Donut Bites are one of the worst Del Taco menu items that you can order. Instead of putting a smile on your face first thing in the morning, this sugar-coated blunder of a dish will give you a queasy and unpleasant start to the day.

Del Taco's Donut Bites are a yawn-inducing version of donut holes. Firstly, their overly firm texture makes it seem like they've gone stale. Secondly, while Del Taco says claims these bites are coated with cinnamon and sugar, you can only really taste the sugar half of that equation. Without the cinnamon, the taste lacks a satisfying kick or diversity of flavor.

Finally, the portion size is too small, as each serving only contains four Donut Bites. Even if these four bogus donut holes were combined, they still wouldn't be the size of one normal donut. If you're on the run and want a donut-powered breakfast, you'd be much better off going to a top-tier donut chain rather than to Del Taco.

11. Egg & Cheese Breakfast Burrito

The Del Taco breakfast menu lists three different types of breakfast burritos, and the Egg & Cheese Breakfast Burrito is the worst of the bunch. This burrito isn't a terrible option but you really could do so much better, especially if you consider all the delicious options that the Del Taco breakfast menu has to offer.

The Egg & Cheese Breakfast Burrito has scrambled eggs and cheddar cheese, both of which contribute an adequate amount of flavor to this burrito. Unfortunately, these ingredients are not flavorful enough to camouflage the bland taste of the tortilla. If you insist on ordering the Egg & Cheese Breakfast Burrito, make sure you order it with a lot of hot sauce packets. If you have a courageous palate, pick the Del Inferno hot sauce. It's super spicy but it works perfectly with this breakfast burrito.

Alternatively, you could order from the Del Taco secret menu and turn the Egg & Cheese Breakfast Burrito into the Green Bean Machine by asking for green sauce and beans to be added to the burrito. That may sound like an unappetizing combination but it's actually quite tasty and will definitely lift this standard burrito and turn it into something interesting.

10. Prima Java Iced Coffee

If you've ever tried one of Del Taco's yummy or minty shakes, you might assume that their Prima Java Iced Coffee is equally as scrumptious. Regrettably, that's just not the case. Del Taco's iced coffee is rather disappointing. In fact, you'd be hard-pressed to find a fast food outlet with a worse-tasting iced coffee.

So much sweetness has been added to the Prima Java Iced Coffee that almost all of the coffee flavor has vanished. If you're not consciously thinking about the fact that you're drinking coffee, you might momentarily think you're just drinking watered-down milk with a lot of sugar and ice cubes in it.

To make matters worse, this breakfast beverage is so sweet that you'll get tired of drinking it long before you reach the bottom of the cup. Do yourself a favor and pick any other drink on Del Taco's menu. For example, you could order a container of Simply Orange, one of the best orange juice brands in all the land, and end up much more satisfied with your drink choice.

9. Bacon Breakfast Torta

Give Del Taco a round of applause for having the gumption and the bravery to put something as weird as the Bacon Breakfast Torta on their breakfast menu. While the fearlessness behind this item is commendable, this sandwich isn't something you should actually order. It's not the worst breakfast sandwich you've ever tasted but it's definitely not one that you will even consider ordering a second time.

The making of the sandwich begins with a roll that has been lightly toasted. Next, scrambled eggs are put inside of the roll, along with shredded cheddar cheese, and crispy bacon. These ingredients are followed by the addition of a couple of hashbrown sticks. The final touch is a generous coating of red sauce.

There's nothing wrong with the ingredients that are used to create the Bacon Breakfast Torta but when combined, it's an awkward conglomeration that doesn't quite work. The texture is wonky and the flavor profile is inconsistent from bite to bite. Also, you definitely don't want to eat this thing if you're on the go because it is extremely messy.

8. Hashbrown Sticks

Del Taco's Hashbrown Sticks are truly delicious. At their best, these potato-loaded goodies are so hot, crispy, salty, and oily that you'll instantly adore them. They taste like a heartier version of french fries, and with five sticks available at such a low price, this delicious treat is truly a great deal.

Beware, though: Del Taco's Hashbrown Sticks are not reliably awesome. Sometimes, when you order these sticks, you'll be met with a cold, mushy, fibrous, and unappetizing disaster. Unfortunately, it's impossible to know when you'll get the delicious version or the disastrous version. If you're feeling lucky, go ahead and order the Hashbrown Sticks.

But just know that there's a very real chance that you'll be displeased with the quality of the food that you receive. If this happens, all you can do is toss these hashbrown sticks in the trash and hope that the fast food gods smile upon you the next time you place your Del Taco order.

7. Prima Java Coffee

While the aforementioned Prima Java Iced Coffee is a cold, watery sea of unremarkable disappointment, the Prima Java Coffee is actually really tasty. This is an item that you can order with confidence, knowing that you'll be happy with what you receive. The Prima Java Coffee easily ranks as being above average, especially when compared to other fast food coffee options.

Del Taco's coffee is a medium roast that's made from a blend consisting only of Arabica beans. If other fast food coffee tastes like it has been sitting around all day, you'll be happy to learn that the Prima Java Coffee is brewed fresh at multiple points throughout the day so that you never have to worry about getting a stale cup of coffee when you go to Del Taco. Perhaps the best part of this item is that this coffee is inexpensive and is likely to easily fit into your budget, even if you drink it every day.

6. Bacon Breakfast Burrito

If you love the idea of an extremely savory breakfast packed with flavor, then Del Taco's Bacon Breakfast Burrito is hard to top. This burrito is packed with buttery scrambled eggs, shredded cheddar cheese, and crispy pieces of bacon. With salty, cheesy deliciousness like this, you'll be licking your fingers to double-check that every speck of savory goodness makes its way to your taste buds.

That being said, if the savoriness becomes too much for you to handle, consider tweaking the Bacon Breakfast Burrito by adding two or three scoops of Del Taco's fresh guacamole. Del Taco's guacamole combines avocados with lime juice and fresh pico de Gallo.

Del Taco's guacamole is so good that you might even love it more than the legendary Chipotle version. Guacamole's nutty flavor optimally complements the savory flavor of this Bacon Breakfast Burrito. You'll have to pay a little bit extra for this yummy avocado goodness, but it's totally worth it.

5. Hashbrowns, Egg, & Cheese Stuffed Quesadilla Breakfast Taco

Del Taco has previously found success by serving stuffed quesadillas (via Restaurant Business). A stuffed quesadilla is essentially a freshly prepared quesadilla that is used as a tortilla. Thankfully, Del Taco has decided to add stuffed quesadillas to the breakfast menu so that this ingenious culinary creation can be enjoyed as the most important meal of the day.

The Hashbrowns, Egg, & Cheese Stuffed Quesadilla Breakfast Taco is a work of art. Both queso blanco and cheddar cheese are used to create the quesadilla. The quesadilla is then stuffed with hashbrown sticks, scrambled eggs, and even more cheddar cheese. If cheddar is your favorite cheese, you'll be in heaven as you chow down on this gooey masterpiece. To kick the creation into high gear, consider adding a dollop of sour cream. The sourness will keep you on your toes and you'll cherish every last bite.

4. Carne Asada Breakfast Burrito

The third and final type of breakfast burrito available at Del Taco is the Carne Asada Breakfast Burrito. While carne asada just means grilled meat in Spanish, you'll be glad to know that this hearty breakfast burrito is filled with an overflowing amount of juicy steak. You may be put off by carne asada at other Mexican food eateries because it can be too rough and is prone to getting stuck in your teeth. At Del Taco, though, the carne asada has a soft texture and the steak explodes with flavor as you chew it.

The Carne Asada Breakfast Burrito comes with scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, and red sauce along with the steak inside of a flour tortilla. Truthfully, you don't really need the red sauce. The other ingredients provide enough flavor that you don't need any additional spiciness, so don't be bashful about asking for this breakfast burrito without the red sauce.

3. Epic Scrambler Burrito

With a name like the Epic Scrambler Burrito, you know this Del Taco breakfast offering is bound to be, well, epic. This legendary burrito certainly lives up to the hype. Firstly, this burrito uses a deliciously soft flour tortilla. Secondly, depending on your order, either crispy pieces of bacon or juicy pieces of carne asada are added. Thirdly, the burrito is filled with shredded cheddar cheese, scrambled eggs, and hashbrown sticks.

Finally, to add an unmistakable amount of spiciness to the mix, both pico de gallo and red sauce are added. As you can imagine, the Epic Scrambler Burrito is spectacularly filling. It's legitimately difficult to eat one of these burritos at a single sitting. If you actually prefer something that you can eat all at once, consider asking for the hashbrown sticks to be left out. Doing this makes the burrito easier to consume in one sitting without losing all the delectable richness that makes this burrito a top-notch breakfast option.

2. Breakfast Toasted Wrap

The Breakfast Toasted Wrap may have an unassuming name but it could very well become your go-to Del Taco menu item. The breakfast wrap consists of scrambled eggs, shredded cheddar cheese, and hashbrown sticks carefully wrapped within a flour tortilla. You can choose between egg and cheese, bacon, or carne asada to add an extra layer of mouthwatering goodness.

And the party doesn't stop there either: The Breakfast Toasted Wrap also contains pico de gallo and Del Taco's signature Salsa Casera. The pico de gallo is reliably tasty but the real showstopper is the Salsa Casera, which adds an entertaining amount of tanginess to the festivities. If you're eating on the run, you'll love how this thing is wrapped. The Breakfast Toasted Wrap is a lot less messy than a burrito. With its simple and neat shape and truly invigorating taste, this is a wonderful way to enjoy breakfast hours at Del Taco.

1. Hashbrowns & Bacon Stuffed Quesadilla Breakfast Taco

If you're someone who craves stuffed crust pizza more than any other type of pizza, you need to make your way to Del Taco right now and order the Hashbrowns & Bacon Stuffed Quesadilla Breakfast Taco. After your first mouthful of this breakfast menu option, you may agree that Del Taco has mastered the art of the stuffed quesadilla and join the chorus of customers raving about these novel tacos.

Compared to the previously mentioned version, the Hashbrowns & Bacon Stuffed Quesadilla Breakfast Taco adds pieces of crispy bacon to the mix, and it is this addition that takes this breakfast item to the next level. A smart move would be to order two of these stuffed quesadillas. After you finish the first one for breakfast, you can spend the next few hours reminiscing about the greatness your tastebuds have experienced. Then, once it's time for lunch, you can reward yourself with a second serving of Del Taco's best breakfast item.
