Mackenzie has worked in the culinary industry for over fifteen years, ranging from a popular destination spa in Utah to the Executive chef of a wine bar in Portland, Oregon, to the owner of a thriving personal chef company. In 2012, she put aside restaurant work to start making culinary education more widely available to those who want it. She worked as the culinary expert for Williams-Sonoma, teaching cooking classes, book clubs, doing recipe development, and working with children to establish a love of being in the kitchen at a young age. In 2015 she took that experience to the internet, as a writer and photographer for a food blog called Food Above Gold. It is focused on teaching cooking confidence and culinary industry techniques and recipes at home. In 2021, she began working at Mashed, where she does recipe development, bringing her unique understanding of food and cooking to an even broader audience.


Mackenzie graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Grande Diplôme and Diplôme de Cuisine from Le Cordon Bleu.
