  • Buffy came by her foodie ways honestly. Growing up in a diner family, she learned the fine art of sipping steaming hot cocoa from a teaspoon. She also discovered that piping hot mashed potatoes and chicken fried steak equals comfort on a platter. Buffy's current quest is to find a good vegetarian equivalent of this dish.
  • She once did a radio interview for NPR News 91 with Karl Theodor Pasche, a jazz musician and the former Undersecretary General of Internal Oversight for the United Nations. They chatted over breakfast, talking about jazz music's role in his diplomatic career. Curiously, they didn't talk about breakfast.
  • Her current obsession is urban sketching. Buffy dreams of hitting the road with about 10 sketchbooks and various drawing instruments and documenting her travels through her drawings. She's fairly certain that there will be more than a few sketches of her lunch.

Experience

Buffy has worked in the media industry since 1999, contributing to media outlets, like Der Spiegel Online (Berlin, Germany), NPR News 91, USA Today Travel, AZ Central, CBS Radio, and now, Mashed.com. For the past 10+ years, she has largely concentrated on food, beverage, and travel reporting. She was the Boise Food Examiner for the now-defunct site, Examiner.com, where her column was number one in the Boise market and in the top five across the whole site. Buffy developed her love of food in art and literature when she was studying German Literature at Boise State University. Before she became a writer, she worked in the food and beverage industry for 12 years as a server, bartender, host, manager, and barista. This, of course, doesn't count the many times she was roped into doing the dishes at Lakey's Cafe, her family's diner, while she was growing up.

Education

Buffy studied German Literature and Culture at Boise State University before going on to earn a master's degree in Educational Technology, also from Boise State. She additionally studied at the University of the Saarland and the Berlin Free University. Currently, Buffy is finishing up art school and one day hopes to see her art decorating the walls of diners across the country.
